Very interesting book and very helpful on filling in a lot of missing info on the great founder of GM Billy Durant.Mr Durant was not a glory seeker or egotistic like so many people and actually never renaming any GM car after himself or even building a new car named Durant. He did found his own Durant Motors after getting run out of GM at the end of 1920 by the bankers, and with a lot of help for many of his well off friends and his Durant Motors stock did sell out fast in the beginning. A very good read, I own 4 Durant made cars that I use in my chauffeuring business here in San Diego and am a 5 year past president of our Durant Motors Automobile Club and have studied Mr Durant extensively even traveling back to Flint MI and the NJ Elizabeth factory that produced a ton of Durant made cars and touring it and his got inside his Durant Dort office building in Flint. Very fun interesting book strongly recommend it and I find it very truthful and accurate.

excellent resourcee
ADEQUATE GIFT FOR OVERSEAS CONTACT, PERSON IS INTO ANCESTORY, THIS FIT IN VERY WELL FOR THE SUBJECTS BEING REVIEWED CURRENTLY
For many years I lived and worked in Flint, Michigan. One of her most prominent citizens is Billy Durant, whose maternal grandfather was not only prominent in Flint lumbering but served as governor of the state of Michigan.
Billy and J. Dallas Dort went into the road cart manufacturing business. Following its success the two got into the automobile industry. Again they met with success. Durant's Right-Hand Man tells the backstory of the General Motors Corporation and Billy Durant and his colorful family, in fascinating detail.
Unhappily the worst part of this book is the introductory chapters which go into great detail about the subject's family history in Canada much of which is really irrelevant to the story-like reading a family tree. Don't give up because of that. While it tends to lurch around at times its material and research is excellent and the author tells the story well. Edwin probably wouldn't deserve a book on his own but as a participant in many important decisions especially in the car industry it gives another view of Billy Durant and while a kindly view of the era is not sycophantic which adds a dimension to the story. A very enjoyable book and one I would recommend to anyone interested in the history of the car and of the 1920's lifestyle.
